Session Percussionist is a Kontakt drum and percussion instrument from Native Instruments. It offers over 2000 rhythmic patterns, rolls and one-shots, played by session musicians and arranged with a pattern search and step sequencer.
Session Percussionist covers everything from solo beats to full percussion ensembles. Its pattern browser lets you search for loops that fit your tempo and style, then drag them into one of five slots. The library spans African drum grooves, Latin polyrhythms, claps and snaps, and it works in the Kontakt environment, so it fits into existing Kontakt-based production setups.
The library includes 58 sampled percussion instruments, among them shakers, tambourines, congas and cajons, with multiple mix variations for each. Ensemble presets combine up to five instrument slots that can play together or separately.
According to Native Instruments, the performances are played by renowned session musicians, which gives the patterns a human feel rather than a quantized loop sound.
Enter a rhythm in the search engine and the instrument suggests loops and patterns that match your production. You can audition suggestions and drag them into any of the five slots.
The built-in step sequencer lets you add or delete notes, change velocity and articulations, and insert flams. A mixer page provides EQ, compression, reverb and delay, and an X/Y pad places each player within a virtual room.
