BollyX is a drum machine plugin by BeatSkillz that combines Indian percussion and processed drum hits in 50 kits and 50 patterns. It is a sampler with a 32-step sequencer, per-pad controls and multi-output routing for AU and AAX hosts.
BollyX is built around percussion recorded in several regions of India, layered with drum sounds that have been processed to sound vintage. Each of its 50 kits mixes these hits with the rest of the set so the sounds work together across the frequency range. The plugin also functions as a drum sampler, so you can replace any sound in a kit with your own WAV, AIFF, FLAC or MP3 file, and it offers controls for each of the eight pads.
The factory library is organized as 50 kits and includes 50 patterns. Each kit blends processed drum hits with Indian ethnic percussion, and the developers describe the library as contemporary, old-school and Bollywood-centric.
Sounds and patterns were designed by Gaurav Dayal and Sentury Status. Their sound design draws on Bollywood sample sources, and the product page names influences including Timbaland, Afrika Bambaataa, Balkan BeatBox and Bally Sagoo.
Each of the eight pads has volume, pan, pitch and release controls, plus sample start and end trim, reverse, and high-pass and low-pass filters. Samples longer than 5000 ms are not supported.
The 32-step sequencer lists eight tracks vertically. Each track has mute, solo and clear buttons, and you can draw or erase triggers by dragging across steps. Per-step rows control pitch from -12 to +12 semitones, note length, velocity, swing, reverb and pan. The built-in EQ, compressor and reverb sit on the kit page, and the eight multi-outputs let you route pads to DAW channels for processing with your own plugins.
