01Overview

GR-X is built around the drum sounds of 1990s club and radio dance music. The sounds were re-sampled through classic hardware samplers, vintage preamps, analog compressors and EQs to capture a gritty, punchy character. The plugin includes 45 drum kits and 30 patterns to start from, and you can build your own patterns, drop in your own samples and export MIDI to your DAW.

Sound and Character of the 90s Drum Kits

BeatSkillz says the kits draw on acts such as Technotronic, Snap!, Afrika Bambaataa, 2 Unlimited and C+C Music Factory. Each sound was re-sampled through classic hardware samplers, vintage preamps, analog compressors and EQs.

The result is a set of drums meant to sound like the golden era of club and radio hits. Global FX and reverb are included to shape the overall mix.

Sequencing, Pad Editing and Workflow

The built-in 32-step sequencer lets you program velocity, pan, note length, pitch and reverb sends per pad. In the sequencer you can draw parameter values in a lane with a continuous mouse drag, and double-clicking a value returns it to its default.

Each pad has its own panel with LP and HP filters, solo and mute, pitch shift, volume, pan, release and reverb send. The MultiOut option gives each pad its own channel in your DAW, and the MIDI drop button lets you drag a pattern onto a DAW track for playback there.
