01Overview

Screech Machine is a synth plugin with three oscillators and a signal chain built around filtering and drive. Its oscillators feed a fixed path of filter, drive, waveshaper, compression and EQ, with effects at the end. A pitch envelope with five pitch contours shapes how each note lands, from a fast screech drop to a swooping hoover. Rave Generation describes the plugin as made for screeches and leads, and the init patch is a plain saw with the chain fully open.

Oscillators and Pitch Shaping for Screech Sounds

The three oscillators offer ten waveforms, including a 7-voice supersaw modeled on the JP-8000, a saw-and-pulse hoover source modeled on the Alpha Juno, and a ring modulator that works on the other two oscillators. Each oscillator supports up to 9 unison voices with detune, stereo width and mix. Hard sync locks OSC 2 to OSC 1 so it can be swept by the pitch envelope, an LFO or the mod wheel.

The pitch envelope covers a range of ±48 semitones with attack, curve, hold, decay and sustain. Five pitch contours run on top of it: Drop, Dive, Rise, Bounce and Hoover. The envelope can be sent to all three oscillators or to OSC 2 alone to sweep a sync or a ring mod.

Filters, Drive and Effects in the Signal Chain

Filter A morphs from low-pass through band-pass to high-pass and feeds four drive curves: Soft, Tube, Diode and Hard. Filter B follows the drive and offers eleven models, including types modeled on the IR3109 chip, the Moog ladder, the TB-303 diode ladder and the Juno-6 and Juno-106 filters.

A morph waveshaper with 256 curves runs from clean through folds, harmonic curves, clipping and rectifying. The output section includes three-band OTT compression, an EQ, a phaser, a saturation stage, a chorus and a stereo reverb with up to 20 seconds of decay. Output never exceeds 0 dBFS, and 1x, 2x or 4x oversampling is available on the drive and shapers.
