01Overview

PSP StereoAligner2 is aimed at problems that appear when two channels do not line up. Spaced microphones, asymmetric distances between a source and its mics, and polarity or routing errors can all leave a stereo track thin, hollow or cancelled out in mono. The plugin includes a goniometer (X-Y scope) and a peak level meter, so you can see the stereo field as you adjust it. It is a practical tool for stereo recordings and mix repair.

Best for

  • Stereo microphone alignment
  • Mono compatibility checks
  • Mix phase repair
  • Kick and snare polarity fixes
  • Stereo layout adjustment

Correcting Phase, Delay and Polarity in Stereo Recordings

The plugin gives you precise control over the phase between the left and right channels. This helps when the channels are out of phase or when you need a proper mono output from a stereo recording.

Inter-channel delay can be adjusted to compensate for latency caused by uneven distances between the sound source and the microphones. Polarity can be flipped for the left or right channel individually, or for both together. This is useful for setups such as kick and snare front and back microphones, or when a microphone's construction causes a polarity issue.

Balance, Channel Swap and Stereo Monitoring Tools

When a stereo track has levels that are unevenly set between channels, the stereo balance control can correct it. The channel swap function handles swapped channels or routing mistakes made during recording, and it can also be used to choose the stereo layout that fits best in the mix.

The goniometer shows the stereophonic properties of the output signal, and the peak level meter tracks the overall digital peak level. Together they let you check the result visually as well as by ear.
