01Overview

PhaseThree is built around a close digital copy of the MuTron Bi-Phase. The developer modeled the original unit closely, including the response of its vactrols and the unique sweep of its LFOs. Because aging makes each hardware Bi-Phase sound slightly different, the model is based on one unit selected for its tuneful character. The plugin keeps the quirks of the original while adding options the hardware never had, so it suits producers who want the classic phaser sound with more flexibility.

Sound and Character of the Bi-Phase Model

Audio Damage describes PhaseThree as a faithful model of the Bi-Phase, with its foibles and quirks intact. The vactrol response is modeled directly, which shapes how the phaser colors and moves the signal.

The original unit had six-stage phasors. PhaseThree adds a 12-stage phasor option for each channel. The developer says the 12-stage setting has a more modern sound than people expect from a phaser, and the six-stage mode remains available for the original voicing.

Controls, Expression Pedal and Preset Management

The Bi-Phase expression pedal is modeled as a separate parameter, so you can drive it from any modulation source in your host, such as an LFO or envelope.

The XML-based preset manager supports copy and paste. Presets can move between the iOS and desktop versions of the plugin using Handoff. The user interface is vector-based and resizes to any size while staying sharp.
