01Overview

PhaseMistress is built around the phaser effect, a staple of funk guitars, disco drums, jazz-fusion keys and rock vocals. Soundtoys developer describes the plugin as an attempt to capture the sound of well-known hardware phasers in a single tool. Beyond the hardware-inspired interface and presets, the plugin exposes its internal phasing circuit, letting producers shape the resonance, color and intensity of each effect. It is offered in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats for Windows and macOS.

Phaser Styles and Circuit Control in PhaseMistress

PhaseMistress includes 69 built-in phasing styles that change the internal structure of the phaser. You can set the number of stages from a subtle 2-stage sweep up to 24 stages. Resonance, color and intensity can be fine-tuned, so you can move beyond the presets and build your own phase-shifting character.

The interface is designed to resemble hardware, which keeps the core controls easy to reach while the circuit-level options remain available for deeper editing.

Modulation Modes for Rhythmic and Creative Phasing

Most phasers rely on a low-frequency oscillator for a back-and-forth sweep. PhaseMistress offers six operation modes, including LFO, Rhythm, Step and Random, along with an envelope mode that responds to the dynamics of the incoming audio.

The LFO section supports a range of shapes, and you can draw your own waveshapes in the Tweak panel. Step and Random modes produce phase shifts that jump rather than sweep, while Rhythm mode lets you program patterns or start from included ones. Envelope mode is suited to triggering the effect from drums, slap bass or rhythm guitar.
