01Overview

Oxford EQ is Sonnox's flagship equalizer, built around a 5-band parametric section with variable-slope high-pass and low-pass filters. Its design traces back to the EQ section of the Sony OXF-R3 digital console. Each of its four EQ types has a different character, so one plugin can cover corrective surgery, musical tone shaping and broad mastering moves. An A/B compare button lets you toggle between EQ settings quickly while you judge changes.

Four EQ Types in One Plugin

Oxford EQ includes four EQ types that sound noticeably different from one another. The clinical mode is modeled on the SSL4000 E series EQ, and the classic mode follows curves similar to Neve and SSL G series consoles. A tighter cut setting is aimed at removing problem frequencies, while wide, gentle curves suit mastering work.

Because the types differ this much, you can choose the EQ character to match the material rather than adjusting one general-purpose curve.

Controls and Workflow

The 5-band parametric layout gives you full control over each band, with variable-slope HP and LP filters for shaping the low and high ends. The automatable A/B compare button lets you switch between two EQ states, which helps when you want to check whether a change is an improvement.

The plugin is built for ultra-low noise and distortion, so boosts and cuts stay clean when you push the settings.
