01Overview

Oxford Limiter - HDX is designed for pushing a mix to high loudness while keeping its detail. Its peak limiting section gives control over attack, release and soft-knee, and the Enhance section adds perceived loudness without dulling the sound. A Recon meter shows the actual signal rather than a sampled one, and Auto Comp corrects reconstruction errors using the ITU-R BS.1770-4 true peak standard. The plugin is intended for DSP use on Avid HDX systems so it does not load the host processor.

Limiting and Loudness Controls

The core of Oxford Limiter - HDX is peak limiting with adjustable attack, release and variable soft-knee. Together these let you shape how aggressively the limiter engages on transients and how smoothly it recovers afterward.

The Enhance section is aimed at perceived loudness. Sonnox describes it as a final polish that raises the sense of loudness at the output stage, which can help a track hold its energy on streaming, radio and club playback.

The Recon meter displays the actual reconstructed signal instead of sampled peaks. Auto Comp then corrects reconstruction errors while keeping overall loudness, conforming to the ITU-R BS.1770-4 true peak measurement standard.

Dither and Output Options

For final output, the plugin provides TPDF dither for 24-bit and 16-bit word lengths. Four types of variable noise shaping are available, and four variable-strength noise shaping modes are included for highly dynamic program material.

You can audition dither before applying it, which makes it easier to judge the effect on your own material before committing to a word length.
