01Overview

Oxford Limiter is an effects plugin from Sonnox in the limiter category. It is built for pushing a mix or master toward higher loudness while keeping the sound controlled. Its peak limiting section gives you attack, release and variable soft-knee settings. A separate Enhance section raises perceived loudness, and a Recon meter shows the actual signal rather than a sampled one. The plugin also includes TPDF dither with several noise shaping options for final output.

Peak Limiting and Loudness Control

The core of Oxford Limiter is peak limiting with attack, release and a variable soft-knee. Together these controls let you shape how the limiter engages on transients and how it recovers afterward.

The Recon meter reads the actual signal rather than a sampled one, so level readings reflect what the output really does. Auto Comp is included to correct reconstruction errors without losing overall loudness, and it follows the ITU-R BS.1770-4 true peak measurement standard.

Enhance Section and Output Dither

The Enhance section is intended to increase perceived loudness on top of the limiter stage. It is one of the plugin's main features for producers working on final masters.

For final output, the plugin provides TPDF dither for 24-bit and 16-bit word lengths. You can audition and apply it, and choose from four types of variable-strength noise shaping, which suit highly dynamic program material.
