Monochord Sound and Articulations
The instrument is based on recordings of a German monochord with 21 strings, one of them tuned an octave lower. Cinematique Instruments recorded each string plucked with the hands and with a plectrum, in two or three dynamic variations. The strings are mapped from C2 to C5, so playing across the keys mimics passing the hands over the strings, which produces a long-lasting sound.
A key switch transposes these sounds. Single strings were also recorded in several round robin variations and dynamic layers, which allows chromatic playing of the monochord.
Beyond the string sounds, the patch includes FX patches built from unusual and experimental noises made with the monochord, with scripting added for further options.
