01Overview

Deconstructed Piano takes a familiar piano sound and pushes it somewhere less predictable. Cinematique Instruments recorded a piano stripped down to its soundboard and played it in many ways, using a piano hammer, felt and wool mallets, screws, plectrums, sticks, thumbs and straws. The result is a set of harmonic strikes, percussive material and textures meant for producers who want sounds that are clearly piano-derived but no longer sound like one. It runs inside Kontakt and is organized into three patches.

Sound Character and Sound Sources

The instrument is built from piano sounds that have been prepared and abused rather than played conventionally. Cinematique Instruments describes sounds ranging from short, hard hits on a metal bar to gentle screw-based tones and large strike sounds made with a sledgehammer.

The library also includes 24 percussion sounds recorded in multiple round-robin variations. These can be blended into the piano sound or used on their own for experimental work, which makes the instrument useful for adding percussive color to a track.

Patches, Controls and Effects

Deconstructed Piano ships with three patches. The main Piano patch offers three sound categories with eleven piano sounds in total. Each sound has its own volume fader, and a randomize button sets the volume of all eleven sounds to new combinations. Attack and decay sliders shape the overall envelope, and an FX section includes reverb, delay, distortion and EQ.

The Strikes patch focuses on impact sounds, including a sledgehammer hitting the piano and a crowbar pulling at the strings. The Textures patch holds soundscapes with automatic volume variation, a speed control and a hold button for an infinite sound, and it shares the same EQ, reverb, attack, decay and distortion options.

The instrument includes three patches: Piano, Strikes and Textures. The Piano patch has eleven piano sounds, the Strikes patch contains impact sounds, and the Textures patch contains soundscapes. The package also includes 24 percussion sounds.
