Articulations and Playing Techniques
The instrument covers six articulations. Plucked is the main technique, played with the fingertips. Fingernail produces a sharper, slightly penetrating tone. Près de la table plucks close to the soundboard for a dry, nasal character, while Xylophonique mutes the strings with one hand for a wooden, percussive pitch.
The Prepared articulation adds dissonant, muted tones with a vibrating noise, suited to experimental and avant-garde work. Harmonics, also called flageolet, gives a warm and gentle sound that is common in harp writing.
