01Overview

MidiShaper is built to generate movement for instruments that respond to MIDI controller data, rather than processing audio. It brings the LFO drawing approach of Cableguys' ShaperBox effect into a MIDI context, so you can design custom curves, steps and ramps and send them out as MIDI. The plugin is available in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats for Windows and macOS.

LFOs, envelopes and modulation routing

MidiShaper provides four editable LFOs and four AHDSR envelopes. Each LFO can be faded in and out by its own envelope, which is triggered by incoming MIDI notes.

The modulation matrix routes the four modulation sources to Pitch Bend, Mod Wheel, channel Aftertouch and up to six MIDI CCs of your choice. That makes it possible to shape movement across the controllers of a synth or effect that accepts MIDI CC input, including both software and hardware instruments.

Timing and sync options

The LFOs can sync to your DAW timeline, with cycle lengths from 32 bars down to a 128th note. Developer Cableguys also offers a free-running mode, with rates from 0.02Hz up to 5.24kHz, for analogue-style modulation that is not tied to tempo.

LFOs can be restarted with MIDI notes, so patterns can follow each note you play. A categorised library of LFO waveforms designed by Cableguys is included as a starting point.
