Sound, Articulation and Recording
Murst Instruments recorded the cello with one very close microphone and one room microphone. The close mic captures the bow texture, while the room mic adds resonance from the body of the instrument.
The instrument uses three velocity layers and scripted vibrato to shape expression. Because it is monophonic, it plays one note at a time, which suits solo lines and legato phrasing rather than chords.
