01Overview

Stone is organized as four banks, each built around a different texture: deep analogue basses, cello recordings, percussive hammer and plucked sounds, and a selection of noise and recorded samples. Murst Instruments describes the set as a composer toolkit. The built-in effects let you add character or push the sources toward something more experimental, and front-panel controls cover volume, envelopes and effect sends. Stone runs inside Kontakt and is designed for quick sketching and sound design.

Sound Banks and Textures in Stone

The four banks are the core of Stone. The Oscillate bank contains deep analogue basses sampled from vintage and modular synthesizers and processed through a germanium fuzz. The Pivot bank focuses on cello, with sustained bow passages, unstructured phrases, granular cello and organ fuzz, recorded close-mic to capture bow texture and body resonance.

The Fluctuate bank features hammer, mallet and plucked sounds processed on a Uher tape machine. The Grain bank adds a quirky set of noise and recorded samples for depth in sound design. Together the banks let you layer sources that were recorded in very different ways.

Controls and Workflow

Stone gives you 20 preset snapshots to start from. The front panel covers the most immediate parameters, including volume, envelopes and effect sends, so you can shape a sound without opening deeper menus. The keyboard can be split across the four banks, which makes it practical to play layered textures on a single instrument.

For more movement, buttons reveal additional modulation controls for the filters. An array of effects can warp and expand the sound sources.
