VS - Visual Synthesizer 2 is a plugin from Imaginando that creates audio-reactive and MIDI-driven visuals using layered shaders, media sources and modulation tools. It runs as VST3, VST2, AU and Standalone on Windows and macOS.
VS - Visual Synthesizer 2 is built for musicians who want to make visuals without learning dedicated VJ software. Its layer-based engine stacks up to eight visual layers over a background, and each layer can draw on shaders, audio visualizers, images, video, text or live inputs. Modulation comes from multi-shape LFOs, MIDI-triggered envelope generators and audio modulators, all routed through a matrix per layer. Because it loads as a plugin, it can sit inside your DAW and respond to the tracks you are composing or performing.
Each of the eight layers can display several visual voices of its material, which the developer compares to playing several piano keys at once. Layers are blended with selectable blend modes over a solid color or an image or video background.
The factory content includes 57 shaders and 63 presets, plus more than 100 images and videos. A built-in shader editor lets you write your own materials, and the Media Manager helps organize the files you bring in.
Four multi-shape LFOs can sync to tempo or be triggered by MIDI, and two MIDI-triggered envelope generators add further shaping. Four audio-triggered modulators respond to peak level or frequency bands.
The Preset Playlist plays presets in order, each with a set duration and transition time, which suits prepared sets and looping installations. Camera, Syphon or Spout input and render output feedback can be used as layer sources. Output reaches up to 4K at 60 FPS, with horizontal and vertical rendering and Syphon, Spout and NDI output.
