01Overview

Hertz Drums 2 is built around a multi-mic drum kit that you can shape piece by piece. Each kit element has its own envelope shaper and ambience controls, and you can choose from three microphone positions per instrument, plus an additional sub mic for bass drums and toms. A Humanize function adds variation in pitch, volume and velocity, which the developer says also applies to your own custom samples. The plugin is available as a DAW plugin or as a standalone app.

Sound Shaping and Drum Kit Control

Hertz Drums 2 gives you control over each kit piece. An ADSR envelope shaper is available for every instrument or separate mic, so you can change attack and decay per element. The Ambience panel sets the balance between room and reverb for each instrument, and the Follow switch lets you position stereo placement for the DI signal alone or together with the overhead, room and reverb outputs.

The Flip button mirrors the stereo image, switching between the drummer's perspective and the audience's. A Reverse button plays the selected sample backward. Per-kit-piece mixing and routing make it possible to build a mix without leaving the plugin window.

Grooves, Sampler and Workflow

The groove browser holds over 1,560 MIDI grooves sorted into Intros, Main beats, Outros and Fills, arranged by playing intensity. You can drag grooves directly from the plugin window into your DAW.

The built-in sampler lets you load your own samples onto each instrument channel. A MIDI-mapping page lets you assign MIDI notes to each of the eight articulations for every kit piece and set the volume of each articulation independently. The interface can be scaled to fit different screen resolutions, and the developer notes it supports one-click switching between stereo and multi-output routing.
