01Overview

HEAT 2 is the updated version of W. A. Production's twin distortion plugin. It lets you choose two distortion and saturation models and blend them together. Each signal can be shaped with high and low pass filters, which helps keep the output controlled as the drive increases. The interface has been redesigned to match the developer's other plugins, and the signal flow runs from top to bottom. Factory presets are included as starting points.

Twin Distortion Models and Filtering

HEAT 2 provides 10 modelled distortion types, and each has an adjustable drive level. You can blend between them with a central dial to create timbres ranging from subtle harmonics to heavy distortion.

Each of the two distortion modules has its own high and low cut-off filters. You can, for example, distort only the mid-range of a synth part or only the lowest frequencies of a kick drum, which gives more control than a single distortion stage.

The Input and Output sliders offer up to plus or minus 48dB of gain compensation, which helps with level-matched A/B comparisons.

Live Metering and Mix Control

Live frequency meters at the top of the interface show the processed signal in real time. The output of the right-hand module appears as an orange waveform and the left-hand module as yellow, so you can see which part of the signal each module and filter is affecting.

The Mix control at the bottom centre sets how much distortion is heard. A low setting gives subtle saturation and sweetening, while higher settings move toward fully processed sound.
