Generate is a polysynth from Newfangled Audio that centers on chaotic oscillators rather than conventional waveforms. Chaotic Oscillators and Wavefolding Sound

Generate's oscillators are built on chaotic generators. The developer says they bring out underlying patterns in apparently random signals, and each oscillator can move smoothly from a sine wave toward total chaos. Along the way the textures include distortion, harmonics, grunge, static and noise.

The oscillators feed five wavefolders, including a model based on the Buchla 259 Complex Waveform Generator, a Fractals folder, an Animated Equation folder and a Saturate algorithm. A Buchla 292-based low pass gate adds POLES and RESONANCE controls to shape the result.

Modulation, Sequencing and Workflow

Almost every control on the main page can be modulated. The modulation interface supports up to 1440 routings in a single pane. Sources include two looping envelopes, two LFOs, Sample and Hold/Random, a Step Sequencer with randomization and a pulse width output, and MIDI or MPE input.

Effects can also be modulated, up to 13 effects parameters. The built-in EQ, Chorus, Delay, Reverb and Limiter are part of the same signal path. MPE support suits expressive controllers, and the resizable interface with color schemes lets you adjust the layout to your screen.
