A Sustained Music Box Sound
The core idea of Silver Lining is to fix a problem with the music box itself. A Spieluhr has a fine, pure tone, but each note fades almost immediately. KLANG set out to build an instrument where that sound keeps going.
To do this, KLANG layered several music boxes, froze them and stretched them well beyond their natural length. The processing removes the short decay and replaces it with a slow, evolving bed of sound. The developer calls the outcome graceful, with the bell-like character still audible beneath the cloud-like texture.
This makes the instrument suited to sustained chords and melodic lines that need space rather than a percussive attack.
