Percussive Sounds from a Destroyed Piano
Rather than sampling a conventional piano, KLANG recorded a piano that had been taken apart and worked over with many different tools. The resulting percussive sounds sit between acoustic percussion and sound design, carrying the resonance and texture of the instrument while losing its melodic identity.
Because the source material is so physical, the sounds tend to suit rhythm-focused music where a raw, unusual timbre is more useful than a clean drum kit.
