01Overview

DRUMBOX: 80ies Machine is a homage from KLANG to the drum computers and sample-based sequencers that shaped electronic music. The developer describes it as an attempt to express its love for vintage drum machines and sample-based production. The instrument was made by resampling several iconic drum boxes from the disco genre and processing them in the way producers of that period did. It runs inside Native Instruments Kontakt and is aimed at producers who want retro drum sounds for danceable tracks.

03In depth

Vintage Drum Machine Sound

KLANG built DRUMBOX from resampled drum boxes associated with the disco genre. Rather than emulating a single machine, the sounds come from several iconic units of the era.

The developer says the processing follows the typical approach of the 1980s, so the kits aim for the character of that period's recordings. The result is a set of drums meant to feel nostalgic and warm.

Kontakt Drum Instrument for Danceable Grooves

DRUMBOX is a Kontakt Instrument, so it loads into Native Instruments Kontakt and works within a standard sampler workflow. You need the full version of Kontakt 5.6.8 or higher to run it.

KLANG describes the instrument as made for dancing, which makes it a fit for disco-influenced, house and other floor-oriented grooves where a retro drum feel is the goal.
