01Overview

Fine Mallets Bundle collects seven mallet instruments in three Kontakt patches: vibraphone, bass marimba, metallophone, glockenspiel, spieluhr, kalimba and crystal bowl. Cinematique Instruments built the set around versatility, using a wide range of mallet types and unusual objects such as cardboard boxes, spoons and spatulas during recording. Tremolo effects and arpeggiators are included for shaping the sound further. Recordings were made with Neumann and Schoeps microphones, mostly performed by percussionist Michael Askill.

Sound Range and Articulations

The bundle contains 30 articulations spread across its instruments. The vibraphone offers felt mallet and bowed notes, along with several prepared versions using coins, folded paper, a spatula, a spoon and a washer. The marimba includes hard, felt and big soft mallets. The glockenspiel has wood, felt, cardboard, plastic and leather mallets plus a brushed option, and a vintage soprano glockenspiel adds wood mallet and thumb articulations.

The metallophone provides wood, felt, rubber and muted options. The spieluhr includes regular, hard sounding and lying-on-wood articulations. The kalimba offers regular and noisy sounding versions, and the crystal bowl offers felt, rubber and leather mallet articulations.

The collection is delivered as three complex patches: Vibraphone, Glockenspiel Box and Marimba. According to the developer, the bundle totals approximately 1.9 GB compressed and includes more than 3,000 samples.

The instruments require the full version of Kontakt 5.6.8 or higher. The free Kontakt Player is not sufficient, as it will run the instruments in demo mode. The bundle supports Native Instruments NKS, which works with Maschine and Komplete Kontrol S-Series keyboards.
