01Overview

Evertone Compressor v2 Upgrade from v1 is the second generation of the Evertone compressor, built around a physics-based dynamics engine based on the equation of motion F=ma. The developer says it keeps the envelope behaviour of v1 while refactoring the internal DSP. The HiDEF precision mode adds higher-precision gain-curve calculation and X8 oversampling, aimed at mastering work, while remaining usable on mix buses, vocal chains and live setups.

Sound and Character of the F=ma Compressor

The plugin treats the audio signal as mass and applies an acceleration component to the conversion to electrical energy. Evertone says this produces compression and recovery that is more natural than conventional tools.

Four physics modes are available: Standard, F=ma Light, F=ma Medium and F=ma Heavy. Each one changes the acceleration character, from delicate, restrained expansion to powerful, dynamic expansion. The F=ma control set includes FORCE and DAMPING, which shape envelope curves and recovery behaviour.

HiDEF Mode and Oversampling for Mastering

HiDEF is a switchable precision mode. When it is ON, X8 oversampling becomes selectable, which the developer describes as the highest-precision setting. X4 oversampling is available in either HiDEF state.

On a new insert HiDEF defaults to ON. When a v1 session is opened, it switches OFF automatically so the older behaviour is preserved. It can only be changed while playback is stopped.

05FAQ

Questions, answered

Who is this upgrade for?

It is an upgrade for owners of Evertone Compressor v1. The developer notes that the full version is sold separately.

What formats and operating systems does it support?

It is available in VST3, AU and AAX formats for Windows and macOS, in 64-bit. The AAX format requires Pro Tools 12 or later.

What are the system requirements?

On macOS, it requires 10.13 or later and is a Universal Binary with native Intel and Apple Silicon support. On Windows, it requires Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit). It supports sample rates from 44.1 to 192 kHz and uses a V2-only serial license.

What is HiDEF mode?

HiDEF is a precision mode that enables X8 oversampling and higher-precision gain-curve calculation in the physics engine. It can be switched on or off only while playback is stopped.
