01Overview

Evertone Compressor v2 is the second generation of Evertone's physics-based dynamics processor. The developer describes it as a full refactor of the internal DSP, carried over from the first version's approach to envelope tracking. A switchable HiDEF precision mode adds higher-quality gain-curve calculation and unlocks X8 oversampling for demanding work. The plugin is aimed at mixing, mastering, tracking and live use across a wide range of genres, from a master bus to a vocal bus.

How the Physics Engine Shapes Dynamics

The plugin is built around a physics engine grounded in the equation of motion F=ma. Evertone says the acceleration component is applied to the conversion to electrical energy, which produces compression and recovery behavior beyond conventional tools.

Four physics modes are available: Standard, F=ma Light, F=ma Medium and F=ma Heavy. Each uses a different acceleration character, from delicate, restrained expansion to powerful, dynamic expansion.

The developer argues that a signal recorded with its transient acceleration partly lost cannot drive a speaker fully. The physics engine is meant to restore natural, musical dynamics and envelope control.

HiDEF Mode and Oversampling Options

HiDEF is a switchable precision mode. When it is on, X8 oversampling becomes available, and the X4 setting remains selectable in either state. Higher oversampling is intended to suppress the digital-style grain that can appear when the compressor is driven hard.

A new insert defaults to HiDEF ON. Sessions created in V1 switch HiDEF OFF automatically to keep the earlier behavior. HiDEF can only be changed while playback is stopped.

X8 adds a very small amount of latency, which the plugin reports to your DAW for delay compensation so phase alignment with other tracks is maintained.

06FAQ

Questions, answered

What formats and operating systems does Evertone Compressor v2 support?

It is available in VST3, AU and AAX formats. It runs on Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) and on macOS 10.13 or later, with a Universal Binary for Intel and Apple Silicon.

What do I need to use Evertone Compressor v2?

You need a compatible host that supports VST3, AU or AAX. The AAX version requires Pro Tools 12 or later. The plugin supports sample rates from 44.1 to 192 kHz.

What is HiDEF mode?

HiDEF is a switchable precision mode that enables higher-precision gain-curve calculation in the physics engine and unlocks X8 oversampling. It can only be switched while playback is stopped.
