Echorium by BeatSkillz tape echo effect plugin interface with X/Y pad

Echorium: Tape Echo Effect Plugin by BeatSkillz

Echorium is a five-engine echo plugin by BeatSkillz, built around a physically modeled tape loop. It adds convolution reverb, modulation, compression and EQ, and runs as VST3, AU and AAX on Windows and macOS.

01Overview

Echorium centers on a tape delay that models saturation, head-gap losses, wow, flutter, dropouts and sampled hiss. Its effects chain includes 28 convolution spaces, three modulation engines, a soft-knee compressor and a 4-band EQ. The developer describes it as a submerged echo machine. Five macro knobs (Age, Space, Time, Movement and Mix) sit over an X/Y pad that controls tape speed and feedback, and it can also play itself in tempo-locked motion patterns.

Best for

Tape Delay Sound and Character

The tape loop is the core of Echorium. Saturation builds with each repeat, so the echoes get warmer and more compressed as they fade. Wow, flutter and occasional dropouts add the imperfections of worn tape, and the sampled hiss adds a noise floor you can keep or lower.

BeatSkillz says the tape speed also changes the tone: slower tape gives darker repeats, in line with the Space Echo approach. Tape speed runs from 0.5x to 2x, so you can move between dub-style drops and bright, fast slapback.

Performance Pad and Motion Patterns

The X/Y pad maps tape speed to X and feedback to Y. Dragging it produces dub-siren throws, tape stops and runaway swells, and every movement is automatable.

In ANI mode, the cursor moves on its own through twelve patterns, including Circle, Fig-8, Swing, Steps, Drift, Spiral and Chaos. Each pattern locks to your host tempo from a 1/4 note up to 8 bars, with a depth control to set how far it travels.

EDIT mode exposes all 76 parameters, and switching views does not change any values.

Space, Modulation, Dynamics and EQ

The Space engine uses 28 convolution impulse responses: 16 springs, 6 plates and 6 halls, captured at 96 kHz. Switching between them is glitch-free, and a live waveform display shows the current response. You can also load your own WAV files.

The Mod section offers a 6-voice ensemble chorus, a tempo-synced flanger and a 2 to 12-stage phaser, placed before or after the tape loop. The Comp section is a soft-knee compressor from 1:1 to 20:1 with even-harmonic drive and auto makeup. The 4-band EQ is draggable and includes 15 preset curves.

Questions, answered

What formats and operating systems does Echorium support?

Echorium runs as VST3, AU and AAX on Windows and macOS. It is a 64-bit plugin and needs a 64-bit host.

What do I need to run Echorium?

On Windows, you need Windows 10 or later, an Intel or AMD processor, 4 GB of RAM and 500 MB of disk space. On macOS, you need macOS 10.13 or later, an Apple M1 through M4 or Intel processor, 4 GB of RAM and 500 MB of disk space.

Can I load my own impulse responses?

Yes. Besides the 28 built-in convolution IRs, Echorium lets you load your own WAV files into the Space engine.
