01Overview

PlexiTape recreates a vintage tape echo with solid state electronics. Audiority, the developer, says it modeled the motor, tape, FET preamplifier, heads and the unit's Sound On Sound mode. Beyond the original design, the plugin adds an auxiliary echo with stereo panning, a tempo sync playback mode and a resizable interface, so it fits both period-style delays and modern stereo effects inside a session.

Tape Echo Character and Controls

PlexiTape offers two FET preamp models, Early and Late, which shape how the input reaches the tape path. Playback runs in either Regular mode, with Varispeed from 3 to 15 IPS, or Sync mode, which locks the delay to your project tempo.

The Echo Tone equalizer lets you shape the repeats, and an internal hum noise control can be adjusted fully. Audiority says the hum helps the realism and allows self oscillation when pushed.

Echo Modes and Stereo Options

Three echo modes are available: Echo, Off, which uses only the preamp and tape colour, and Sound On Sound. Sound On Sound turns the unit into a looping recorder, which suits layering loops and building textures.

The Auxiliary Echo with Echo Pan adds a full stereo effect, spreading repeats across the field for wider delays.

What do I need to run PlexiTape?

On macOS, Intel Macs need OS X 10.9 or later, and Apple Silicon Macs need macOS 11.0 or later with an Apple M1 or higher. Pro Tools 11 or higher is needed for AAX, and a 64-bit host is required for each format.
