01Overview

Echoes T7E MKII is built around a magnetic spinning drum with record and playback heads, modeled on a tube echo made in Italy in the early 1960s. Audiority models both the mechanics and the electronics of the original design. The plugin offers three playback modes, including Sync to match your host tempo, and extends the delay length from roughly 310 ms up to about 1100 ms. Sound, Character and Playback Modes

Audiority describes the T7E as a faithful recreation of a magnetic drum echo, and the drum design is the source of its character. According to the developer, the drum arrangement offers more stability than a typical tape transport, with reduced wow and flutter.

The Classic, Varispeed and Sync playback modes let you choose between a free-running drum speed, a variable speed setting, or a delay locked to your host tempo. Four equally spaced playback heads can be combined in 12 head configurations, and each head has its own Tone, Error and Volume controls and independent panning.

An internal hum noise adds realism and enables self-oscillation, and the Input Tube Low Cut shapes what reaches the echo.

Controls and Workflow for Echo Effects

The three echo modes are Echo, Repeat and Swell. The Stereo Spread and Heads Pan Law settings control how the repeats sit in the stereo field, while Magnetic Drum Age and Speed settings shape the drum behavior.

The EM81 Magic Eye tube level indicator gives visual feedback on the signal level. Newer version 2.0 features include a PE 603 style head switching matrix, a Delay Extension of up to 11 seconds with Speed at minimum, a pre-amp mode when Delay Extension is set to 0, an Output Booster, a Speed Filter and a Lite Mode.
