DRUMBOX: Krautrock Machine is a Kontakt instrument from KLANG that draws on vintage drum computers and sample-based rhythm production. It requires the full version of Native Instruments Kontakt 5.6.8 or higher.
DRUMBOX: Krautrock Machine is a drum instrument built for Kontakt by the German developer KLANG. The developer frames it as a tribute to drum computers and sample-based rhythm sequencers, tools the company argues were essential to the development of electronic music. The instrument is designed around that history, with a focus on the vintage machine approach to drum programming and on the sound of German Krautrock. For producers working in electronic styles that grew from these machines, it offers a themed starting point rather than a general-purpose drum kit.
KLANG describes DRUMBOX as a homage to the history of drum computers and sample-based music production. The developer says the instrument expresses its love and passion for these machines and the music they made possible.
The concept connects directly to the vintage approach to rhythm programming, where sequencers and sampled drum voices defined the sound of a genre. Producers interested in that lineage will find the instrument's focus clear from the start.
Krautrock is closely associated with Cologne and Düsseldorf, and KLANG is a Cologne-based software company. The developer decided to create an instrument honoring the musical heritage of its home city.
This regional origin shapes the instrument's identity. It is a themed Kontakt instrument for producers drawn to German electronic music and the drum sounds connected with that scene.
