01Overview

DarkFire works on the harmonics that saturation creates rather than only the signal itself. After saturating a track, you can separate the added harmonics, shape them with EQ, filtering and compression, and then layer them back under the dry audio. The developer positions it as a flexible enhancer for kick and bass warmth, vocal or guitar brightness, and overall mix richness. Its shaping tools are modelled on classic FET and VCA compressors, passive EQs, and tube and tape saturation.

Shaping Harmonics Separately From the Dry Signal

Standard saturation adds harmonics to the whole signal, so you have limited control over what is added. DarkFire splits the two. Once the harmonics are isolated, you can use EQ and filtering to place them only in the frequency ranges you want, and compression to mix more harmonic content in without raising peak level as much.

The developer says this approach lets you add presence and depth to instruments such as guitars, bass, vocals, pianos, drums, strings and synths. Because the processing is applied to the added harmonics rather than the full mix, the original tone stays intact underneath.

Analogue-Modelled Tools and Workflow

DarkFire's controls are modelled on classic analogue hardware, including FET and VCA compressors, vintage passive EQs, and tube saturation and tape emulation. The plugin includes automatic gain compensation, so the output level matches the input and louder settings are not mistaken for better ones.

The interface is photorealistic and can be resized by dragging the bottom-right corner, so you can make it smaller to save screen space or larger for easier editing. The plugin also uses internal 64-bit processing at any sampling rate, including 192 kHz and higher.
