01Overview

Couture is a dynamics effect from Auburn Sounds built around transient shaping. Its detector works on two bands and a half-spectral RMS, program-dependent signal path. The developer says this design gives precise control over attacks, so you can make a sound punchier or softer without changing its overall level. Couture also includes six saturation types, pre and post filters, and an internal sidechain filter for shaping the detection.

Transient Shaping and Saturation Controls

Couture uses an Amount control for the strength of the transient shaping, along with a Dry/Wet control for blending the processed signal with the original. Volume-preserving distortion lets you add saturation without a large jump in level, and six saturation types cover different colors.

Up to 8x oversampling is available for the distortion stage. Pre and post filters let you shape the signal before and after processing, and an internal sidechain filter controls what the detector responds to.

A transient view with pause helps you hear and adjust the attack content on its own.

Mood Control and Typical Uses

The Mood control routes dynamics to a lowpass filter to create a tape-like sound. Auburn Sounds describes the timing accuracy of the detector as needle-like.

Typical uses include making individual drum tracks punchier, removing the click from a kick drum sample, adding life to leads and basses, and adjusting the dynamics of a whole bus. Light compression and saturation can add glue to a mix, and Couture can also add an attack and then drive it with saturation in one plugin.
