01Overview

Psypan 2 is built on the binaural panner from the original GFM Psypan, released in 2011. The new version expands the design into a full stereo toolkit, with panning modes ranging from binaural algorithms to classic volume-based pan laws. It also includes creative modes for adding width and movement to a track. Because all of these modes live in one plug-in, you can audition different stereo approaches on the same source without switching tools.

Binaural Panning and Classic Pan Laws

Five of the 17 modes are binaural panners. These include a 2-band option and Psy-2, a newer algorithm that the developer describes as producing true front-facing rotation.

Three further modes use clean, volume-based panning with classic pan laws, giving a more conventional sound when you need predictable mono compatibility or a familiar placement.

Creative Stereo Effects for Width and Movement

The remaining nine modes are creative effects: Haas, Doubler, Chorus, µ-shifting, Peak Panner, Widener and three M/S variants. These are aimed at adding width, life and motion to a sound rather than simply placing it left or right.

The Free Edition enables 10 of the 17 modes, so you can evaluate the core panning and effect algorithms before deciding whether the full set fits your workflow.
