01Overview

The Silver Jubilee 2555 was a limited Marshall release from 1987, prized by high-profile rock guitarists and now a collector's piece. This plugin models the reference 2555 amp held in the Marshall museum. Its cabinet sound was captured by producer and engineer Tony Platt, who worked on AC/DC's Highway to Hell and Back in Black. The package includes 50 presets by Tony Platt for both the native version and Amp Room.

Sound, Character and Amp Modeling

The Silver Jubilee series was based on the JCM800 2203 and 2204 models but added new features. The 2555 has a preamp with three gain modes: Clean, Rhythm Clip and Lead. Softube says the preamp is higher in gain and somewhat darker and smoother than the JCM800.

The power amp tubes can switch from pentode to triode operation, which halves the output and makes the power amp distortion silkier and less aggressive. The developer states that this behavior has been modeled in the plugin.

Mic Setup and Mixing Controls

The cabinet is based on the 2551AV Silver Jubilee series design with 4x12 Celestion Vintage 30 speakers. You can choose Dynamic or Condenser microphones, and each set includes two close mics plus room mics, with condenser and ribbon options for the room.

A side panel channel strip adds an Input Gate to reduce noise, a Master Out for output level, per-mic In switches and Pan controls. Room Mic 2 has a delay line with a Room Mic Delay fader and a Feedback knob for the loop back through the cabinet.
