01Overview

BFD JEX Drums is an expansion for the BFD3 drum software. Its sounds come from a hand-made kit from XDrum's Xotica line, built with six plies of Keller maple plus an extra ply of Sapeli Pommele running vertically. BFD says this construction focuses the low end. The kit is finished with hand-applied tung oil, which the developer describes as an open tone. The package also includes a bonus Ludwig SuperSensitive snare from BFD Jazz & Funk.

Kick and Tom Recording Approach

The JEX kick and toms are custom X-Drums instruments. The kick was recorded with two beater types, giving you a choice of attack characteristics within the same kit. The toms were recorded with sticks, mallets, brushes and rods, so you can change the feel of a fill without loading a different kit.

For low end, the kick includes a Yamaha SubKick microphone, which BFD positions as a way to reach extreme low frequencies. The toms and kick were captured in the same room and studio conditions used for the BFD Jazz & Funk and BFD Percussion expansions.

Snare and Kit Setup in BFD3

JEX includes a bonus Ludwig SuperSensitive snare taken from BFD Jazz & Funk, so you get a snare alongside the custom kick and toms without buying a separate pack. Because the package is built for BFD3, it fits into the same workflow and library as the other BFD expansions.
