Kits, kicks and toms for heavy drum sounds

The two Yamaha birch kits are recorded in detail, giving you a set of kicks and toms to build a heavy drum sound. The expansion includes three kicks, with wood and felt beater versions, so you can shape attack and punch to suit the track.

Nine toms are included, and five of them come in stick and mallet versions. Rim shots and rim clicks on the birch toms add articulations for fills and accents.

The bonus snare is a reduced-detail version of a Yamaha Jimmy Chamberlin steel-shell snare, taken from BFD Signature Snares Vol.2. It offers stick and mallet playing styles, half-edge samples and a strainer switch that turns the snare wires on or off.

Requirements and who it suits

BFD Heavy requires BFD3, BFD Eco or BFD2 (version 2.1 or higher) and is not a standalone instrument. The expansion needs an internet connection for download and authorization, and a full install takes about 5 GB of hard drive space.

The kits suit producers working in hard rock and metal, where a large, aggressive acoustic kit is the goal. The developer notes that the recordings were made in similar studio conditions to BFD Percussion and other Yamaha-based expansions such as BFD Maple Custom Absolute.
