03In depth

Sound and Kit Character

The core of BFD Cocktail is the Yamaha HipGig portable drumkit, a compact kit with 7-ply birch and mahogany shells. BFD describes the sound as upfront, and positions it for pop, rock, jazz and funk.

The kit was developed with drummer Rick Marotta, which gives the sound a clear, player-driven focus. Because the recording conditions match BFD's Jazz & Funk and Percussion expansions and the Mapleworks kits, drums from this pack should sit comfortably alongside those libraries in the same BFD3 project.

Playing Articulations and Presets

BFD Cocktail includes two articulation options for each main drum. The snare can be played with sticks or hot-rods, and the kick with felt or rubber beaters. These choices let you shift the feel of a groove without changing the kit.

The expansion includes 15 presets in various styles, so you can start from a ready-made setup and adjust it to your track in BFD3.
