01Overview

Weiss DS5 Multiband Compressor is a multiband dynamics processor developed by Softube in close partnership with Weiss Engineering. Each of its five bands runs a code port of the DS1 compressor, so you can control compression across specific frequency ranges on mix busses, vocals, drums and mastering chains. Macro controls let you shape the overall sound quickly, and each band's DS1-MK3 settings can be opened for detailed adjustment.

Sound, Transparency and Crossover Filters

Softube designed the filters for transparency, with the aim of keeping pre- and post-ringing artifacts to a minimum. The crossovers are phase-compensated 24 dB/octave filters that can run in three modes: Dynamic Phase, Static Phase and Linear Phase.

Softube says the filters were designed to be fast, and the plugin is built for low latency, including in the Dynamic and Static Phase modes and in the newly designed safety limiter. Choosing a mode lets you trade off phase behavior against processing characteristics depending on the material.

Macro Controls and Workflow

The macro controls act on all five bands at once, so one adjustment can drive five DS1-MK3 units together. Presets serve as starting points and are designed to be tweaked. Clicking the DS1 button on a band opens its Weiss DS1-MK3 and exposes every available option for that band.

This combination suits users who want quick results from the macros and deeper control when a specific band needs attention.
