Vocal Character and Recording Approach

Soundiron recorded vocalists Evan "Severed" Seidlitz, Alecia "Mixi" Demner, Jason Kocol and Aaron Boynton, each with a different style and technique. Every singer was captured in a dry studio with multiple microphones. A Shure SM58 dynamic stage mic provides punch and grit, while a Neumann TLM 103 large diaphragm condenser adds full-range clarity.

The samples were prepared and edited, then programmed into a performance interface intended to offer both efficiency and control. Soundiron describes the result as an extreme solo vocal library covering roaring, screaming, hissing and screeching textures.

Wordmaster, Phrases and FX Rack

The Wordmaster interface includes 100 words covering nouns, pronouns, verbs and adjectives. Each word has death and scream modes, and the two layers can be mixed, panned and switched between sustaining and staccato versions independently.

A collection of live micro-phrases can be assembled with the tempo-synced phrase step sequencer, then stretched, layered and blended. The built-in FX rack includes multi-effects, compression, EQ, amp and speaker simulation, and convolution reverb with custom recorded rooms and halls.
