01Overview

Vertigo Viola joins the Vertigo family as a dedicated viola instrument. The developer notes that the viola is often overshadowed by the violin, and this library is built around its honest, raw and vulnerable character. It covers a wide range of articulations and special bow effects, making it suited to emotional string parts and intense, textural moods. Like other Vertigo instruments, its articulations can be mixed and matched, panned, tuned by interval and processed with built-in effects.

Sound Sources and Articulations

Vertigo Viola provides 16 sound sources. These include several arco articulations, a viola da gamba sound with arco and fragile versions, two sul pont variations played close to the bridge for a more metallic timbre, and a soft harmonics articulation.

There are also motion articulations with one and three players that move between long notes and tremolo, random bounce articulations that can be synced in half, fourth and sixteenth note values, two bow sounds, and two resynthesized violin-style sources, one of them a frozen viola.

All articulations can be combined, which lets you build your own viola sound from the individual layers.

Effects, Presets and Workflow

Each sound source can be shaped with the instrument's effects. Besides tone, attack and decay controls, two controls called Fog and Retro give the whole instrument a vintage and rich quality.

The instrument includes 13 pre-defined ensembles as presets. A Dice option randomizes the sound for unexpected results. Nine reverb types are available, including several room sizes and special types named infinite, ghost and deep valley. The modwheel controls volume.
