01Overview

Vertigo Glass & Iron is the latest member of the Vertigo series, and it keeps the warm, gritty character of its siblings. The instrument combines rubbed, bowed and struck glass and metal sources, along with some resampled and processed material, so you can move from subtle tones to more experimental soundscapes. Cinematique Instruments describes it as easy to use for sculpting textures, and it is aimed at both film composers and producers who want organic, unique timbres.

Sound Sources and Character

The instrument provides 17 sound sources grouped by how they are played. Rubbed sources include wine glasses, thicker drinking glasses and metal singing bowls. Bowed sources include a vibraphone, drinking glasses, singing bowls and a Saron and Gender from gamelan traditions. Struck sources include drinking glasses, a Glockenspiel and a Gender hit with a rubber mallet. Special sources include a time-stretched metal fork, a bowed Autoharp and glass signals routed through a strange module and a resynthesizer.

Cinematique Instruments recorded several sources with varying articulations, and each one can be mixed, tuned and panned individually. The developer describes the overall sound as warm and raw, with an organic flavor.

Controls, Presets and Effects

Beyond tone, attack and decay, two extra controls called Chorus and Retro make the whole instrument sound more vintage and rich. A Dice option randomizes the sound for unexpected results. The instrument includes six reverb types, covering several room sizes along with an infinite reverb and a deep valley reverb.

The library comes with 14 presets that load pre-defined ensembles, so you can start playing immediately and then adjust the sources to suit your project. A mod wheel controls volume and tone.
