01Overview

Vertigo Cello is a cello instrument built for Kontakt, and it joins the Vertigo family from Cinematique Instruments. Its core is a set of 15 cello articulations that can be mixed, tuned and panned individually. The developer describes the result as an organic string sound with a deep, vibrant character. Articulations and Sound Character

The 15 sound sources range from sustained notes and legato playing to more experimental techniques. Sustained Cello, Sul Pont, Harmonic and Bowed are available with one solo cello or a cello trio, while Fragile plays very quietly, close to atonal bow scratching. Circular and Evolving Random Bowed articulations add movement, and Cloud Cello and Resynthesized sources run the cello through modular processing and granular effects.

Cinematique Instruments also includes a portamento patch that plays fifths up or down in one or four cellos, which is useful for sweeping string lines.

Controls, Presets and Effects

The instrument offers a tone control plus two character controls named Fog and Retro, which push the sound toward a vintage, rich tone. Six reverb types are included, covering several room sizes as well as special options such as infinite and Alaska deep valley. The modwheel adjusts volume and tone.

Thirteen presets provide starting points for ensembles, and the Dice option randomizes settings when you want to explore unexpected results.
