Sound, Character and Workflow

Passive tube equalizers are known for adding character to a wide range of sources, including drums, synths, vocals, guitars, strings and brass. Softube says the Mk II updates the original processors with its newer signal processing, while keeping the same core sound.

The 'Pultec'-style section is built around a low-frequency boost and attenuation pair that sit slightly offset in frequency. Boosting and cutting at the same time can produce a focused bump in the low end. The mid-range section never boosts; it only attenuates the selected frequency. Combining the two sections in one plugin removes the need to chain separate units.

System Requirements and Host Compatibility

The plugin runs on macOS Big Sur 11, Monterey 12, Ventura 13, and on Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit). It requires a Softube account and an iLok account, and it supports sample rates of 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4 and 192 kHz in mono and stereo.

Any 64-bit VST, VST3, AU or AAX host should work, but Softube officially tests only the most recent versions of Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Cubase, Ableton Live, Studio One and Reaper. Softube recommends VST3 because some features are not present in the older VST format. TDM, VENUE and RTAS are no longer supported, and AAX DSP is not in active development.
