01Overview

The TR-727 plugin is Roland's software version of the Latin percussion machine released in 1985. It uses the original sample ROM and recreates the hardware's PCM output stage with circuit modeling, so the sound keeps its character. Beyond the original 15 sounds and 64 patterns, it adds 43 new patterns and kits, adjustable tuning and decay, and a sequencer with flams, sub-steps and per-instrument shuffle. It runs as a VST2, AU or AAX plugin on Windows and macOS.

Authentic Latin percussion sound and character

The TR-727 plugin is built on the original TR-727 sample ROM. Roland says its Analog Circuit Behavior technology models the PCM output stage and the analog envelope and amplifier stages that followed the original converter, including the quirks and instabilities of the hardware.

The plugin keeps all 15 original sounds and 64 original patterns. Beyond the hardware, you can adjust tuning, decay, gain and sample rate, and Roland describes the PCM clock as adjustable from 6.25 kHz to 100 kHz for more extreme results.

Sequencer and workflow in your DAW

The expanded sequencer edit panel provides individual lanes for each instrument, with mute, solo and adjustable shuffle. Each step can carry accent, alternate sounds, sub-steps and flams.

You can drag audio or MIDI patterns directly onto DAW tracks or cells. The interface is resizable, offers original and aged skins, and includes LCD-style sequencer windows. Multiple outputs let you route each sound through effects such as ZENOLOGY FX.
