01Overview

JUPITER-8 brings Roland's 1981 polysynth into the DAW. The plugin is built on enhanced ACB circuit modeling, which Roland describes as a recreation of the original hardware's circuit behavior. Its resizable, high-definition interface is designed to feel like working with the vintage unit. Beyond the original patches, it adds an arpeggiator, onboard effects and new sounds for contemporary music, and it can also pair with the SYSTEM-8 hardware synth.

Sound, Oscillators and Circuit Mod

Each JUPITER-8 voice is built around two VCOs with four waveforms, and the original design supports cross-modulation and sync sounds. The filter offers selectable two- or four-pole low-pass modes alongside a non-resonant high-pass filter, with two envelopes for shaping sound over time.

The Circuit Mod function is a macro that sweeps through multiple internal trim settings at once, letting you move from a clean, factory-calibrated tone to a more unstable character. Polyphony is adjustable from two to eight notes.

Workflow, Browser and Effects

Tempo-synced LFO, arpeggiator and effects let the instrument follow your project tempo. The effects section includes chorus, reverb, flanger, delay and overdrive.

The integrated browser searches across all installed patch banks, and you can rate favorites, add notes and make quick adjustments with a tweak panel. If you own a SYSTEM-8, PLUG-OUT lets you run the synth on the hardware.
