01Overview

TF-72a V2 is a tube preamp plugin from Tone Empire, built to emulate a vintage German tube preamp. Tone Empire says the plugin was developed with neural networks and deep learning. The effect is aimed at adding analog warmth to recorded material, and the developer positions it for vocals, guitars, drums and other instruments. Five captured Boost models let you move from subtle enhancement to firmer saturation, while input and output controls, a dry mix and high- and low-pass filters shape the result. The plugin runs as a 64-bit effect on Windows and macOS.

Sound and Character of the Tube Preamp Emulation

Tone Empire describes TF-72a V2 as a faithful emulation of a legendary vintage German tube preamp that appeared in well-known studios. The developer says the new V2 models were trained with neural networks and include an Ultra-x mode, along with improved sonic response.

The Boost control selects between five captured models. Use the lower settings for musical enhancement and the higher ones for punchier saturation. Drive pushes the input into the valve stage, and the Link switch keeps output level in step with drive so you can raise gain without changing overall loudness.

The dry mix blends the unprocessed signal back in, which gives you parallel processing without a separate bus.

Controls and Workflow

Input Adjust and Output Adjust let you fine-tune gain before and after processing. Output Adjust trims the final signal after the filters and dry mix.

The high-pass filter sits before processing and covers 20 Hz to 2 kHz, so you can clear low end going into the preamp. The low-pass filter sits after processing and covers 2 kHz to 20 kHz, letting you tame upper harmonics on the way out.

The GUI is resizable. Drag the bottom-right corner to fit the plugin window to your display.
