01Overview

Klirrton Grindstein is built around the Klirrton Manufaktur death metal preamp, developed with producer Kristian Kohle of Kohlekeller Studio. The plugin combines two mixable channels, Bottomshaker and Chainsaw, with a built-in boost, a phase switch, a Schnauze-based noise gate, a Fleisch equalizer and a cab simulator with seven speaker combinations. Audiority says it covers tones from Swedish HM2-style sounds to 90s Florida transistor distortion, with a tighter low end for modern productions.

Sound Character and Channel Design

Grindstein offers two channels that can be mixed together. The Chainsaw channel has a 3-band EQ, which suits cutting, aggressive rhythm tones. The Bottomshaker channel has a 2-band EQ and is aimed at heavier low-end weight.

A built-in boost based on the Lichtbringer circuit lets you push the preamp harder, and a phase switch produces an out-of-phase tone that Audiority describes as supergrindy.

The plugin is modeled on original hardware, so its distortion and tone-shaping stages follow the character of the analog preamp.

Noise Gate, EQ and Cab Simulation

High-gain guitar tones need clean silence between notes. Grindstein includes a noise gate based on the Schnauze circuit to control this.

The 5-band Fleisch EQ offers a set of boost and cut bands selected for this preamp. Use it to refine the tone after the channels and before the cab stage.

The cab simulator includes seven speaker combinations selected by Kris Kohle, so you can audition different cabinet voicings without a separate cab plugin.
