01Overview

TDR SimuLathe CUT models the disk mastering process inside a plugin host. It combines a fully parametric virtual cutting lathe with audio processing, metering and several turntable pickup models. The plugin is aimed at people who cut disks themselves or run a disk mastering service. It is built around calibration, so that many disk cutting systems can be replicated, and it lets you check groove excursion, width, velocity and land before a master leaves the studio.

Cutting Lathe Simulation and Groove Analysis

The core of the plugin is a precise virtual disk cutting lathe that can be parametrized to match different cutting setups. The audio processor section offers highpass, lowpass and elliptical filter options, along with a set of limiters that act directly on groove excursion, groove width and velocity.

A groove microscope lets you inspect the physical groove in all dimensions. Heatmaps for excursion, width, velocity and land help you locate areas that may cause problems on the finished disk.

The metering section reports groove excursion, width and velocity, along with gain on disk and stereo width.

Test Cuts, Pickups and Workflow Options

Three physically modelled turntable pickups can be used for monitoring and for creating shareable test cuts. Test cuts give a way to hear how material will sound on a disk before a final cut is made.

The plugin supports multi side and multi disk layouts and displays imperial or metric units throughout the interface. For playhead control, it offers host sync, host sync via parameter automation, and a manual playhead for hosts without a playback position.
