01Overview

TAIP is a tape emulation effect built to add analogue warmth inside your DAW. Its controls range from a light touch of heat to heavy distortion. Baby Audio says the plugin uses an AI-based algorithm, trained on dry and processed audio, to model tape behaviour rather than relying only on traditional DSP. The plugin includes 135 presets and a feature set for shaping the tape sound, from parallel mixing and tape flanging to added noise.

Tape Saturation and Glue Controls

The DRIVE knob sets how much colour the tape adds, while LO-SHAPE and HI-SHAPE let you saturate the low or high end more or less than the rest of the spectrum. A warm drum bus can gain saturation without the low frequencies distorting.

GLUE adds the compression-like cohesion that tape machines are known for due to their limited dynamic range. You can use it for subtle glue or push it further as a compressor. PRESENCE restores high-end brightness that tape often loses.

INPUT switches between NORMAL and HOT levels without changing output volume, and AUTO GAIN keeps output level consistent as you add more DRIVE.

Tape Flanging, Wear and Model Options

WEAR combines wow, flutter and an altered frequency curve to emulate a worn tape machine. Running MIX in parallel with WEAR produces a classic tape flanging effect, because the wow and flutter sit alongside the dry signal.

The MODEL switch chooses between SINGLE, a regular tape emulation, and DUAL, which chains two emulations with each applying half of the DRIVE value. DUAL adds slightly more weight to the signal. NOISE adds tape hiss to taste or removes it entirely.

Questions, answered

What formats does TAIP support?

TAIP is available in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats. It runs on Windows and macOS, and the macOS version supports Intel and Apple Silicon processors.

Does TAIP need an internet connection?

Yes. An internet connection is required to authorise the software. A trial is available.

What is the difference between SINGLE and DUAL mode?

SINGLE is a regular tape emulation. DUAL chains two tape emulations together, each applying half of the DRIVE value, which adds slightly more weight to the signal.

What DAWs can I use TAIP in?

The macOS requirements list Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Cubase, Nuendo, Reaper and Reason, along with other major DAWs. The Windows list is the same except for Logic Pro.
