Vibraphone Sound and Articulations

The core of the instrument is the Yamaha Concert Vibraphone, recorded with three mic positions: a close Shure SM57 and a mid pair of AT35 microphones, captured on a Universal Audio Apollo X at 24-bit / 48kHz.

The traditional patches include four articulations with medium and hard sticks, string bow and brush, with three velocity layers from piano to forte across five octaves. An additional articulation set adds nine synthesizer sublayers sampled from Dave Smith and Roland analog and modular synths.

The library ships with 50 Kontakt presets, 24 traditional vibes and 24 soundcapes, and all 18 GUI controls, including the tremolo control, are MIDI learnable.

Who It Is For and Recording Background

Abstract Vibes suits producers who want a vibraphone with a more unusual, modern edge than a standard orchestral library. The synth and effect layers, including tape, dimension and space processing, are designed to sit in electronic productions and film cues alike.

The performances were recorded in Budapest and played by Nandor Weisz, a percussionist with the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra for over twenty years. He studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich.
